Flu
Having recently suffered at the hands of the flu, I thought it would be pertinent and timely to do a post on H1N1 and where to find information on the illness.
Lesley Jackson, one of our Research Librarians, has put together a Libguide with lots of Flu related information. Here is a link to the guide: http://researchhelp.centre.edu/Flu
Another great link for information is the Flu.gov site: http://www.flu.gov/
Be sure to check out the rap video put together by Dr. Clarke.
The CDC, Centers for Disease Prevention and Control, also has a site devoted entirely to the H1N1 Flu. http://www.cdc.gov/Flu/news.htm
Finally, Centre College has a site with information on the flu, how it is affecting the campus community, as well as information on a plan of action if the flu were to reach epidemic proportions at Centre. http://www.centre.edu/emergency/index.html
Get informed and take care of yourself.

A Very Potter (and Very Entertaining) Musical
This past weekend, my roommate and I couldn’t decide what to do. Partying really isn’t our thing, and we’re not too big on spending money, either. So like many college kids who have too much time to waste (or homework to procrastinate on), we resorted to YouTube, sure that we would find some entertainment. And we found it. A Very Potter Musical(renamed from the Harry Potter Musical after some copyright issues) held our attention and kept us laughing for a long while. Produced last year by the University of Michigan, this full-length musical was recorded and put on YouTube and is quickly gaining attention. It’s characters are captivating and hilarious. Voldemort is simply a lonely man who wants friendship: “I thought killing people would make them like me. But it just makes them dead.” And Malfoy is a semi-friendly boy who’s only purpose is to transfer to Pigfarts, a wizard school on Mars. With its many quotable lines and memorable characters, A Very Potter Musical is a winning choice for a weekend movie.

Bibliographies and citations
Formatting a bibliography can be an exercise in frustration. Check out these FREE tools.
Bibme. Billed as the “fast and easy bibliography maker”, bibme is just one of the open source and free applications available. It is possible to search for a book, article or website or to manually enter a citation. MLA, APA and Chicago (Turabian) styles are supported at this helpful cite, oops, I mean site:0)
Mendeley is another research organization tool. Mendeley is advertised as “Like Endnote”, but free and web-enabled. Mendeley offers more functionality than Bibme as there is a sharing feature available with this tool that makes it easy to collaborate or connect with other researchers in your field.
Produced by George Mason University and the Center for History and New Media, Zotero is one more citation and research organization tool that is freely available and web-based. This tool also allows for collaboration and automatic capture of citations. Zotero also includes an advanced search feature and allows for a search of your pdfs and notes as well.
Take a look at these and determine for which tool best suits your research and citation needs.

Stress Busters
The library purchased some low-tech stress busters last spring. These were originally located at the circulation desk and could be checked out. We have now moved these stress busters to the reference desk and these no longer need to be checked out, but may be used at your leisure! The puzzle is, of course, still available. We have added: Origami, Sudoku, Crossword puzzles, word finds, Tangrams, and Crayons and Coloring Books. If there is something you would like to see added to this collection-let one of your librarians know. Enjoy!

New Printers in the Library
The library has new printers! Gone are the days when you had to wait endlessly for your print job to finish loading so that you could release it from the printer. There are a few new procedures, however, to keep in mind when you are printing in the library.
1. The username box will no longer pop up when you send a job to the printer. Just select “print” and go to the printer to swipe your card and release your print job. Your job will be identified by your Centre log in name (the first four characters of your username will be displayed in the list of pending print jobs).
2. If printing from a PC, make sure that you choose the Ricoh Library Printers from the drop down list. One Note (currently the default printer setting) will not allow you to print your material(s).
3. To print double sided, follow these steps:
- After choosing Ricoh Library printers to print your material(s), click on Properties.
- A box will pop up which says “Updating Now”.
- Once the box disappears from the screen, click on Properties again.
- Go to the Duplex drop down box.
- Select Open to Left from the drop down box.
- Click Print.
4. The library no longer has a color printer. For all color print jobs, please send these to the copy center via e-mail ann.king@centre.edu or suzetta.lynch@centre.edu
5. If you experience any difficulty with your print job(s), please let a library staff member know right away so that we can get the issue fixed for you.
